virtual-keyboard
A Go server and mobile client that transforms a smartphone into a wireless keyboard and trackpad over local Wi-Fi.
What It Is
When giving presentations or streaming media from a computer across the room, having to sit right next to a physical keyboard or carry a bulky wireless peripheral is inconvenient.
virtual-keyboard is a fast, lightweight Go utility that runs locally on your PC or Mac and serves a touch-optimized mobile web app over the local network, allowing your phone to act as an external wireless keyboard, mouse, and presentation clicker.
What It Does
- Low-Latency WebSockets: Streams touch gestures and key inputs from the mobile browser to the host machine with near-zero latency.
- Native OS Input Simulation: Leverages Go OS hooks to simulate real system keystrokes, modifiers (Ctrl, Cmd, Alt), and mouse cursor deltas.
- Zero App Store Installs: Uses standard mobile web browsers via local IP connection, requiring zero native apps installed on the phone.
Skills Used & Key Learnings
- Real-time WebSocket bidirectional streaming, Go concurrency models, and low-level OS input driver interaction.
